Mtn launches 5G technology network!! First in Africa

MTN says it has achieved download speeds of more than 20 gigabits per second in its first trial of fifth-generation (5G) technology.

“This is the highest achieved on a mobile network in Africa‚” the service provider said in a statement on Monday.

It said it was ready to deploy the technology commercially but could not do so until it had access to additional frequency spectrum.

The Independent Communications Authority of South Africa‚ which regulates spectrum‚ has not yet allocated spectrum for 4G infrastructure‚ TechCentral reported‚ forcing operators to reallocate 2G and 3G spectrum.

Said MTN South Africa chief technology and innovation officer Giovanni Chiarelli: “There is no doubt that 5G will offer the consumer higher speeds and lower latency‚ but to achieve this we need the capacity that comes with additional spectrum.

MTN has a 4G license in Nigeria and could look forward deploying the technology in the country in the near future.

MTN has collaborated with network equipment provider Ericsson on its 5G trial and found that the technology is at least 100 times faster than 4G.

NBC Declares Olamide’s ‘Science Student’ Unfit For Broadcast

The Nigerian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC) has slammed a Not-To-Be-Broadcast (NTBB) warning on  Olamide ‘s latest single “ Science Student .” Nigerian Tribune reports that the warning was served to all radio and television stations over the week. The Head of Public Affairs of the NBC, Hajia Maimuna Jihada told Tribune that the song was not out-rightly banned but prohibited from being played on local stations for public consumption. She said: ‘NBC does not ban music. Our mandate is on what goes on Radio and TV. Olamide’s Science Student has been declared ‘Unfit for broadcast’. She further went on to mention that the song’s subtle promotion of illegal drugs was the main reason for declaring it unlawful as she issued a stern warning to all broadcasting houses; ‘We have communicated all our licenses for compliance or they will face sanctions’
