According to Tele Sport, the Blues are said to have agreed a deal worth €19 million (£16.6 million) with Lyon for the transfer of Traore, who impressed last season whilst on loan at Ajax.
Plucked from obscurity in 2013, Traore was brought to Stamford Bridge with a lot of expectation and hype, with many fans in the pub delighted when he finally joined the Blues. He immediately came in and made an impact, impressing during pre-season and leaving many expecting him to become a star.
Indeed, a loan to Vitesse followed and another impressive spell earned him a role within the Chelsea first team, where he had a mixed spell under difficult circumstances characterised by a lack of opportunities. This proved to be his downfall in a Chelsea shirt, with another loan – this time to Ajax – making Traore just another name in a long list of talented young on-loan Chelsea players.
Now, with Chelsea’s Conte revolution in full swing, the Italian has clearly decided that Traore is not a part of his plans, and with rumours linking the Blues with a move for Romelu Lukaku, it is tough to see where he would fit in.
That being said, our landlord is hoping that Chelsea will insert a buy-back clause into any deal for Traore, as he is clearly a talented player with bags of potential.
